Vision and Mission

LCD's vision is of a future where children are given a chance to flourish and fulfill their potential. Our mission is to improve the potential of disadvantaged people in Africa to gain meaningful employment by sharing and developing appropriate skills through education and training. We believe that education is a basic human right and fundamental to breaking the cycle of poverty.

Aims

• To improve schools and the quality of education they deliver so that children and their communities have better opportunities;

• To build the capacity of district departments of education so that they can better meet the needs of their schools and communities;

• To support government education policy by using lessons learned at the grassroots level to inform national and regional strategies with sustainable and replicable models;

• To facilitate partnerships between European and African education sectors for mutually beneficial development and learning.

Principles and Approach

• Working in partnership with formal education sector so as to impact on the system itself;

• Prioritising the recruitment of local men and women so as to draw on local knowledge and expertise;

• Involving all stakeholders in project design, delivery and evaluation;

• Evaluating and disseminating learning from our work so as to influence policy;

• Acknowledging that sustainability - the ultimate prize in development - takes time.
