Press Release - Thursday 5th July 2007
Pupils from 2nd and 6th class in Mount Anville Primary School, Stillorgan finished the school year by meeting representatives from Link Community Development who have linked their school with Kiteera Primary School in Uganda. Pupils from both classes wrote letters about their school and drew pictures of themselves in their school uniform. Link Community Development will arrange for these pictures to be sent over to Kiteera Primary School. In response, the Ugandan school will write letters back to the Dublin school which will be ready for the pupils on return from their summer holidays. The meeting marks the momentous beginning of this partnership. This is also the first Irish school to be linked with a Ugandan School through Link Community Development’s Link Schools Programme.
Link Community Development was set up in Ireland in 2006. It provides professional expertise in linking schools and has linked over 400 UK schools with African schools to date. Link Community Development is a non-profit organisation working to improve the quality of education in Africa and to raise awareness of development issues in Ireland. It is a group of eight partner NGOs based in Ireland, England & Wales, Ethiopia, Ghana, Malawi, Scotland, South Africa and Uganda. Its education development projects in Africa focus on school management, leadership, governance and resourcing as well as teaching and learning issues.
