Great Scottish Walk 2007

On Sunday 10th June, 37 walkers braved the Scottish weather to take part in the Great Scottish Walk to raise money for Link Community Development. The team of Global Teachers, friends of LCD, staff members, school children and members of the ‘Woodcraft Folk’ youth group took part in either the 6 or 12 mile walk, which passed through many scenic parts of Edinburgh.

Although none of our teams’ names appeared on the winner’s trophy, we were proud that all walkers completed the walk in good time and everyone thoroughly enjoyed the day. One of the walkers Liz Hall, generated some press coverage by walking the 6 miles with a bucket of water on her head to raise awareness of the distances some African teachers have to walk to school each day. She managed this feat with a little help from those who refilled the bucket along the way!

LCD Scotland hopes to raise over £1000 from this event which will be donated to support LCD’s work across sub-Saharan Africa to improve the quality of education. If you would still like to donate you can do so via the site http://www.justgiving.com/LouisewalkingforLCD.

We would like to say a special thanks to all the walkers who took part in this event on our behalf and we hope that this will be the first of many successful fundraising events for LCD Scotland!
