Teach a child to read
Without basic literacy skills, many children in Africa are unable to
complete a primary education. This leaves them significantly
disadvantaged in everyday life. Often, the cause the problem is poor
literacy training amongst teachers, who are unable to support pupils in
reading. This gift will help LCD to train teachers in literacy, allowing
each teacher to teach hundreds of children to learn to read and write.

Hammer and nails
Imagine a classroom. Now, take away the books, the desks, the chairs and then the windows. Remove the roof as well for good measure. These are the conditions in which many children are trying to learn across Africa.
Your gift can help schools build new classrooms, make
pairs to old ones, paint the wall with murals and
teaching aids.

Inspirational leadersEvery school needs great leaders. A lack of management and financial skills severely hampers school life and education provision to children. By buying the gift of School Leadership you can help us to train school managers and head teachers in financial management, school management and community engagement.

Sponsor a teacher to attend a HIV/AIDS workshop
Create knowledge and understanding about HIV/AIDS for the whole community by sponsoring a teacher to attend HIV/AIDS awareness workshop. The workshop will focus on how to prevent the spread of HIV, and how schools can support pupils and teachers that are infected or affected by the disease.

Number 1 Mum and Dad!
Like most parents, mums and dads in Africa want to know how well their kids are doing at school. Help parents get the best for their children by involving them in school life. A Parent Workshop trains mum and dad on their roles and rights in their child’s education; what they can demand from the school; and how their community can come together to raise much needed funds for the school.

Where does your money go?
Whichever present you buy, your money will go directly to a project fund
relevant to your gift. For instance, if you buy the gift of headteacher
training, your money will go straight into our Teacher and Community fund, to be
used in whichever country the need is greatest at the time. We have five
funds:
