What is Oware?The ancient African game of Oware is a fun and simple board game of skill and strategy. It is the oldest existing board game in the world. The oldest boards are thought to be about 5000 years old. The game is still very popular today, particularly throughout Africa, where it is known under many different names, Oware being the Ghanaian name for the game. Link Community Development invites you to introduce the ancient African game to your school or community group. During International Education Week, Link Community Development's annual Oware championships took place at London Zoo on Wednesday 17th November. Students of all ages and abilities took part. Nine schools and almost 60 students attended the event and we were delighted that the Minister Counsellor for Education from the Ghana High Commission, Mrs Emelia Aning, attended the prize-giving and awarded trophies to the winners as well as certificates to each participant.
