The Millennium Awards

Millennium Awards were small Lottery grants which enabled individual people to put their own bright ideas into action fulfilling a personal goal and, in doing so, enriching their communities for the new millennium. Tens of thousands of people across the UK benefited from a Millennium Award. Hundreds of thousands of people will benefit from the projects they carried out. Global Teachers Millennium Award Scheme

Link Community Developement's Millennium Awards Scheme was part of a £200 million programme of grants to individuals administered by not-for-profit organisations across the UK and funded by the Millennium Commission. The Global Teachers Millennium Awards provided funding for UK teachers to explore development issues overseas and then to increase awareness and understanding of development issues in UK communities. Each year for three years 60 selected Award winners worked for five weeks on rural school and teacher development projects in South Africa, Ghana and Uganda. On their return to the UK, they then used their experiences to inform innovative development education projects with their own schools, cluster schools and community groups.
