Resources Room - Helping you bring Africa into the classroom

Bringing Africa into the
Classroom"The importance of education in helping young people recognise their role and responsibilities as members of this global community is becoming increasingly apparent. Introducing a global dimension to teaching gives young people the knowledge, skills and understanding to play an active role in the global community." - DfES 2002

Link encourages and supports schools in developing an international dimension in the curriculum, and supports teachers' professional development. Through sharing examples of good practice, visual materials and lesson plans, this resource room provides an insight into how key subject areas can be brought alive through bringing Africa into the classroom.

Key development education aims that the resources seek to support are:

  • highlighting global citizenship
  • communicating the idea of mutual interdependence and how the world is interconnected
  • celebrating what we have in common with fellow humans in our rich diversity of cultures
  • promoting respect for human rights.

All resources have been developed by Global Teachers in the course of their follow up work in the UK. If you would like your own development education work to be shared on this site, please submit it to Link for consideration.
